Vintage Bathroom Furniture

At Scaramanga, we’ve carefully curated an inspiring collection of vintage bathroom furniture to revamp your bathroom into a unique and functional space. We strive for originality when sourcing furniture because we know how special it is to have one-of-a-kind pieces which are full of history and charm.

Our collection includes bathroom mirrors, shelves, bathroom cabinets, cupboards and freestanding units. We’ve travelled all over the world to find the finest bathroom furniture that can’t be bought anywhere else. Our pieces are both attractive, and practical and would look great in any home.

What is our Furniture made from?

Our wooden, vintage bathroom furniture is made from teak wood which is an exceptionally strong, durable and eco-friendly choice for your home. Teak has a high rubber and oil content which makes it water-resistant and pest-resistant, meaning your teak furniture will never rot, warp or splinter. At Scaramanga, our wooden bathroom furniture goes beyond durability, like all of our pieces – they are one-of-a-kind.

Our wooden bathroom furniture includes distressed bathroom cabinets, shabby-chic-inspired armoires, vintage wooden trays and shelves. We know that there are always going to be cheaper wooden alternatives available on the market, low-quality pieces that might look good for a year but won’t stand the test of time. At Scaramanga, we offer teak furniture because we know how important it is for you to know you’re making eco-conscious, stylish and reliable purchases. This means your teak bathroom furniture will last you for as long as you need them and become iconic pieces of furniture within your home.

We understand how important it is for your vintage bathroom furniture to be as stylish as it is functional. That’s why at Scaramanga we have sourced excellent storage solutions for your bathroom that vary in size, shape and style to help you store all your important items in a striking fashion. We’ve got a selection of vintage armoires, farmhouse cupboards, art deco-inspired units and smaller, wall-hanging cabinets, all there to offer you the space you need to de-clutter your bathroom.

Our larger pieces would make excellent towel cupboards, a place to store toilet rolls or even keep your Epsom salts or bath bombs for a relaxing bath after a long day. Our smaller vintage wall-hanging cabinets would be perfect above your sink and could store toothpaste, toothbrushes, face wash and all your essential bathroom products. If you’re like us and you love an indoor jungle, our free-standing shelves offer you an excellent solution to display plants and vases.

We’ve got a huge selection of finishes, some distressed, adding to the vintage aesthetic you’re after and others with a bare wood finish – there’s something for everyone in our collection of vintage bathroom furniture.

We love repurposing furniture, it adds charm, and a vintage aesthetic and gives an old product a new lease of life. It’s great to see our customers buying vintage pieces and watching the exciting ways in which they choose to repurpose them. It’s great for the environment as well as adding a unique character to any home.

A Short History of Bathrooms

Bathrooms were not originally developed with hygiene in mind, in 3000 B.C., water had strong ties with religion and was seen as a purifying element for the body and soul. The upper class had private baths built into their homes and the lower classes shared public baths, although interestingly, the upper classes would also use public baths, demonstrating their prominence as a useful and social institution. People used baths as a place to catch up with friends and enjoy entertainment.

Between the 16th – 18th centuries, the plague hit England which warped people’s opinions of public baths. They began associating public bathhouses as cesspits of disease and in 1546 King Henry VIII shut down all public bathhouses. Therefore, the use of public baths declined, and private bathrooms became more favourable, laying down the foundations of what we know as the modern bathroom. However, it wasn’t until the 19th century that the bathroom became a room of its own rather than a corner of the bedroom where certain tasks were completed.

The discovery of germs as a cause of disease altered the way people thought about cleanliness and hygiene. The industrial revolution forced old habits and beliefs into the past with the rise of hot water, plumbing and gas heaters. Wooden barrel baths were decorated with tiled patterns and the bathroom was seen as a room of function. Fast forward to the 21st century and the bathroom now combines both style and functionality. It is a place to get clean, change clothes, relax, unwind and take pride in your home.
