After 20 years we're looking back and telling the story of Scaramanga’s journey through 20 iconic items.
It all started with our leather satchels in 2006. Carl sourced just 12 satchels that were similar to the one he discovered in 1999 in a dusty bazaar in Rajasthan.
In 2006 we met a bookbinder, Hitesh who started making handbound journals and sketchbooks.
In 2007, we also found a handful of old shaving boxes that made cute compact jewellery boxes.
In 2009, we designed and made our first compact leather travel bag, inspired by 1970s flight bags.
One of our early starring roles came in 2012 with Tim Burton's Dark Shadows. 10 of our antique chests were in the opening scene on Liverpool Docks.
Not long after designing and making satchels, we launched classically-styled leather messenger bags.
More furniture soon followed including, large cabinets and cupboards like this 1930s Art Deco piece.
Our leather accessories were a good way to reduce leather waste from our bag-making. Our travel wallet was inspired by Carl's trips to India. He wanted a compact wallet for his travel docs and money.
Our padlock collection started after our old chest collection grew. An old lock on an old chest just made sense. In 2012 Scaramanga old brass lock featured in The Hobbit.
In 2013, the Boho leather backpack was launched as we grew our travel-inspired accessories.
We saw demand for more furniture left in its original colours and condition. Wall cabinets are popular pieces for displaying collections and personal pieces.
Unique hand- painted vintage postcards were added to our website 10 years ago and have been very popular gifts.
2015 saw the introduction of our blue vintage tables. Originally used as wedding tables in Jodhpur. They would have been elaborately decorated, but left bare they show years of timeworn use.
Our biggest travel bag was launched in 2016 and was made from our durable Hunter buffalo leather and brass hardware. Perfect for weekend get-aways.
In 2016 We were fortunate to find a haul of vintage Japanese furniture from Tokyo. The craftsmanship of each piece was exquisite.
These old metal trays are from North Indian dhabas (roadside diners) and were used to carry curries to the tables. They're popular with UK bars and cafes.
Around 2017 we saw a change in tastes as more people fell in love with the old original paintwork on our large cupboards and wardrobes.
Though a lot of our stock comes from India we regularly find mid-century British chairs like these Ben chairs with their fabulous curved arms and tapered legs.
Over the years we've sourced a handful of big doors with frames and this one was a favourite with a perfectly time-worn blue and red finish.
One of our most popular items over the last 15 years has been our printers' cases. They're ideal for displaying very small collections and curios.
